​AUTOMOBILES

Tags & Registration: To register your auto in Lee County, you will need to go to the Lee County Tax Commissioner’s Office located right next door to us at 100 Starksville Ave. For more information, call (229) 759-6015.

Moved from out of state:

  • All vehicles must be registered within 30 days of moving into the state.
  • If the vehicle is a lease vehicle, tag office will need lease agreements & POA (Power of 
  • Attorney) along with copy of GA drivers license. 
  • Title - if no title, current registration & lien holder’s name and address
  • Current Mileage
  • GA Insurance - Binder with current effective date or transmitted in the state computer. NO
  • POLICY CARDS.
  • If vehicle is in 2 owners names, both owners need to be here to sign the title application
  • Military need driver’s license and military ID.

HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

If you buy a new home in Lee County and are living in it, you are entitled to homestead exemption in the state of Georgia. To qualify, the property has to be listed in your name and you be living in it on January 1st for the year which you are applying. 

Applications are accepted between January 1st and June 1st in the Tax Assessor’s Office located across the street from the courthouse. You will need a copy of your warranty deed when making application.

SCHOOLS

We have two zones, east and west, and you attend certain schools based on your location. Each school has a district map displayed if there is any question.

If you are coming from out of state and have children entering into our schools, the State of Georgia requires that you get their shot records transferred to Georgia Forms. To do this, you need to go to:

Park Street is located between Lee Medical Arts and Walnut Plaza off of Hwy. 19 in Downtown Leesburg. The Health Department is opened from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. They will see you on a walk-in basis.

UTILITIES / GARBAGE

The Lee County Utilities is located at 905 US Highway 19 South in Leesburg. This is where you arrange for trash pick-up for the entire County and possibly water, depending on where you locate. There is a garbage fee in our County, so when you move in, make sure to come up and register the account in your name to avoid penalties for use without payment. The Utility Department can be reached at (229) 759-6054.
